Starting in 2001 the Foundation became involved in finding the crash site of Pathfinder plane 981 in Retie, Belgium. This plane was one of four in the morning of 17th September 1944. Over Belgium, the plane was hit by flak and crashed. Several troopers jumped, a few didn't have time as the plane was too low. The crew too lost their lives.

Eventually, mostly through the fervent interest of the familiy who lives in the farm house next to the crash site, this interest led to the unveiling of a monument to crew and pathinders of the 101st Airborne Division.
